2011 Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride XI

On Sunday, May 29th, downtown Sevierville will thunder with the sound of hundreds of motorcycles. They will be gathering for theEleventh Year to pay tribute to all Fallen Military. This is a “rain or shine” event since our Troops did not get the choice of  better weather!

The event begins in Sevierville with the opening ceremony at 10:00 A.M.  Local talent including James Rogers, will offer a prelude of Patriotic Music and will open our ceremony with the National Anthem. Immediately followed by Major Doug Estey, Ret. our guest speaker and an appearance of an American Eagle from the American Eagle Foundation with Mike Acuff, a wreath will be placed at the Veteran’s Memorial followed by the playing of Taps. We will leave at 11:00 A.M. on a 60 mile long Police escorted ride across 5 counties to Grainger County’s Veteran’s Overlook for the closing ceremony.

Closing ceremony will begin once all motorcycles have arrived. United Veteran’s Honor Guard will be on hand to post colors and flags from all branches of the Military. Another wreath will be placed at the Veteran’s Memorial followed by a 21 Gun Salute and Taps.

The coordinator and volunteers of this event would like to invite the entire community to come out and watch as the event passes. In the time it takes the procession to pass, take that time to remember all those who believed so strongly in Duty, Honor, Country. The route will start at Gary Wade Blvd. , goes East on Dolly Parton Pkwy toward Newport. It will travel a short distance on 25/70 before turning onto 25 E to White Pine, Morristown,  Bean Station and on to Veteran’s Overlook.

If you come early, “Bistro’s”, across from the courthouse, will be open for breakfast at 8:00 A.M.
