JOIN ME AND WIMZ AND "POWER DOWN" TO SUPPORT VETERANS
KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County residents are asked to support the environment and veterans by taking part in Power It Down Day on August 27.
The idea is to save money by turning off your computer, monitor, printer, etc. when you leave work that Friday. In turn, the project organizers will make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project.
It's estimated that one computer, monitor and printer use about 13 kilowatts overnight.
Last year's Power It Down event had estimated savings of 73,000 kilowatts, or enough energy to power the homes of 77 U.S. families for an entire month.
You can register at www.poweritdown.org. You'll get an email reminder to take part the day before.
This is the third annual Power It Down event. In 2009, a total of 5,600 people signed up and the sponsors donated $45,000 to the Wounded Warriors Project.
The Knox Green Team is putting out the call for people to participate. Members work to educate and support citizens to make environmentally sustainable lifestyle changes.
