The residents of Basin City, better known as Sin City, lead a hard life of drinking, smoking, infidelity and crime.  Marv (Mickey Rourke) enjoys beating up punks and anyone who deserves it.  Dwight (Josh Brolin), a private eye fighting his demons, has a woman from his past reenter his life.  That woman, Ava Lord (Eva Green), is a dame to kill for who broke Dwight’s heart but still occupies his thoughts.

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his group of mercenaries known as the Expendables are on a mission to free an original team member named Doc (Wesley Snipes) from a high security prison in a foreign country.  Once he’s free the real mission can begin.  Ross and company have an assignment from the CIA in Somalia to take out a billionaire arms dealer who is responsible for much of the unrest in Africa.  That arms dealer turns out to be another of the original Expendables Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson) who Ross thought he had killed.

New York City TV news reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) is assigned feel-good, fluff news stories; but she wants to break into hard news and is trying to make her mark with stories about a recent crime wave caused by the criminal gang known as the Foot Clan.  Her videographer Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) wishes April would be patient and wait for her chance.  He also wishes she would go out with him on a date.  While driving through the city in the TV station van, April and Vern notice people running out of the subways in panic.

In the minutes following the death of his mother from cancer, young Peter Quill (played as an adult by Chris Pratt) is abducted by an alien spaceship.  Peter was taken by a group of pirates called Ravagers that are led by Yondu (Michael Rooker).  Raised by Yondu, Peter is taught the ways of space pirating and grows into a strong, charming and ambitious young man.  Sent by Yondu to an abandoned planet, Peter acquires a shiny metallic orb held suspended by a force field.

Dusty Crophopper (voiced by Dane Cook) is continuing his winning ways on the racing circuit; however, during one race he feels a problem somewhere in his engine and nearly crashes.  His mechanic tells Dusty that there's a flaw in his gear box.  That part is no longer manufactured and unless they can find one in a junk yard or in a warehouse and he pushes himself past 80% of torque, it's liable to break and seize up his engine.  Sharing a drink at the local watering hole, Dusty's former boss, who has heard about his problem, offers him his old job back.

In the near future, a virus modified in a lab to deliver an Alzheimer’s disease treatment has turned into a worldwide flu-like epidemic with a survival rate of one in 500 victims.  Human civilization has collapsed with armed marauding bands taking whatever they can use and killing whoever gets in their way.  Ten years after the outbreak a small community of survivors lives in San Francisco, barely surviving on what they can scavenge.  Up in the forest outside the city, a group of apes with enhanced intelligence led by Caesar (performed by Andy Serkis) is thriving.

Donna Stern (Jenny Slate) is an aspiring stand-up comedian doing free gigs in a performance space at the back of a bar.  Her roommate Nellie (Gaby Hoffman) and her friend who runs the comedy show, Joey (Gabe Liedman), are a great deal of support for Donna and she really needs them now:  Her boyfriend Ryan (Paul Briganti) ends their relationship by telling her he’s seeing one of her friends behind her back and the used bookstore where she works has lost its lease and is closing in six weeks, soon to leave her unemployed.

The world’s economy has collapsed and a can of food is worth killing for in the Australian outback.  Eric (Guy Pearce) is sitting in a bar having a drink when a small truck rolls over on the street and lands on its wheels but stuck on the side of the road.  Inside are Henry, Archie and Caleb (Scoot McNairy, David Fields and Tawanda Manyimo), three thieves who have just pulled off a violent robbery.  Henry has been shot in the leg and had been arguing with Archie in the truck about leaving Henry’s injured, and possibly dead, brother behind at the scene.

Back in the 1950’s, a group of young men formed a band that went through several name changes; from the Variety Trio to the Four Lovers and the Variatones.  After being thrown out of a bowling alley’s cocktail lounge where they had been hired to perform, the band decided to name themselves after the Four Seasons Lanes.  The Four Seasons consisted of lead singer Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young), bass player Nick Massi (Michael Lomenda), keyboardist and songwriter Bob Gaudio (Erich Bergen) and band founder and guitar player Tommy DeVito (Vincent Piazza).
