WIMZ Salutes Axl Rose on His Birthday

Axl Rose, the lead vocalist and only remaining member of Guns N' Roses, celebrates his 50th birthday on February 6th.

Rose, born in Lafayette, Indiana, moved to Los Angeles in 1980. Upon moving there, he started a music career, but never found real success until 1985 when he merged his band Hollywood Rose with Tracii Guns' L.A. Guns to form Guns N' Roses. In 1986, Guns N' Roses signed with Geffen Records and in July of the following year released their first album Appetite for Destruction.

After slow sales to begin in the first year, the album would go on to sell 28 million copies worldwide. They followed this success with G N' R Lies in 1988 which sold five million copies in the U.S. alone. Three years later, they released Use Your Illusions I and Use Your Illusions II which debuted at number 1 and number 2 on the Billboard album charts.

By 1997, Rose was the only remaining member of Guns N' Roses. Rose would continue to rehearse and work on music with different sets of musicians, but a new album would not be released until 15 years after the last album. Chinese Democracy was released in 2008 exclusively at Best Buy.

On February 6th, WIMZ would like to salute one of the most influential front men on his 50th birthday. In celebration of Axl Rose's birthday, enjoy one of Guns N' Roses' greatest successes, "November Rain."
