(Reuters) – The men’s and women’s 100 metre finals will take place on day two of next year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the World Athletics Council (WAC) said on Wednesday.
The biennial event scheduled for September will begin with the men’s and women’s 35km race walk and end with the men’s 4x100m race instead of the traditional 4x400m race, with nine track finals scheduled for the last day, the WAC said.
“The qualifying window for the marathon and 35km race walk is Nov. 5, 2024 until May 4, 2025,” the WAC said in a statement. “For the 10,000m, 20km race walk, combined events and relays, the window runs from Feb. 25, 2024 to Aug. 24, 2025.
“For all other events, entry standards can be achieved from Aug. 1, 2024 to Aug. 24, 2025.”
The World Athletics Indoor Championships, to be held in Nanjing, China in March, will not use world rankings for qualification, instead going by an entry standard, wild card entries through wins on the World Indoor Tour and the top performances from Sep. 1, 2024 to March 9, 2025, the WAC added.
